Dry ice for a wedding / Dance on the clouds / Cloud dance
No wedding party can start without an opening dance! This is the penultimate “official” point on the big day (before the wedding cake) when you can be sure that everyone will be pulling their phones out of their pockets. Of course, because everyone present wants to save an eternal small frame of the greatest joint moment of your life. That’s okay anyway. However, it is also very important to take professional photos of this.
I am Dóri Szénás, wedding photographer, creator of Dóra Film.
In recent years, I have attended countless weddings. I was able to record hundreds of opening dances, so I can confidently say that I have a basis for comparison. Many people don’t know, but there is a tool with which we can take the most spectacular wedding photo of you! And this is nothing but dry ice. Even the names cloud dance or dance on the clouds may sound familiar. Behind each name is the same thing!
➡ What is the cloud dance?
This is an approx. spectacular fog that rises to knee height (and stays there) (that is, gas, but let’s not get into the physics now… 🙂 ) The point is that it’s like dancing above the clouds with your beloved… This allows you to experience the real fairy-tale cloud dance part of you!
Personally, I usually create a lot of pictures (approximately 600-800 pieces) and give them to my partners. It includes all the important moments from getting ready, during the ceremony(s), through creative photography to the evening party. BUT! A very large percentage of the photos shared on social media are dances on the clouds, and they tend to be pictures of opening dances made crazy with dry ice. However, I really don’t do much for the greatness of the picture… I simply capture moments that happen there and then.
➡ What is the secret of the cloud dance? What makes the picture perfect?
Its secret is simple but great. This is a sudden sublimation, during which a cloud is created in seconds that covers the entire dance floor. (Video and pictures here) It is worth using one or two super lights to create the perfect wedding photo. By lighting, I don’t mean only the stage light, but also a lamp giving mood lighting that can be placed from below, in the cloud itself (which can even be your decor color). This way we can highlight the cloud lines better, the image will be more contrasty. It is worth discussing with the wedding DJ what kind of lights he will bring with him. It is not only good for you to have information about this, but also for me! I like it when everything is in place. In retrospect, unfortunately, I can no longer conjure up lights in the pictures… What I like and recommend to you too: Direct light from a height of at least 2-3 meters (this can even be projected onto the dance floor) and a few small lights from below.
➡ “I don’t like to dance!”
I know that many people try to “smooth” the opening dance, but I think this event can be one of the jewels of the wedding. It’s also a fact that 8 out of 10 of my couples are terrified of having all eyes on them from the entire wedding party.
